Easy Peasy: Strawberry Banana Smoothie

Easy Peasy: Strawberry Banana Smoothie

We decided to start a new mini column on this blog of ours entitled “Easy Peasy” . I wanted to call it “Easy Freakin Peasy”, but thought it might come off a little harsh. If you haven’t noticed by now, we try to cook things that are simple. We are wayyyy too cool to use 13 different flours in our recipes, or ingredients no one has ever heard of. But sometimes we have little tips/tricks that are so easy, they aren’t really even recipes, so we made a whole new category for them! We know it can be exhausting having to basically cook every meal from scratch, so we hope we can provide some “recipes” that will save you some time and taste great. Woo!

First up, a smoothie that takes only three ingredients. It’s seriously simple and very delicious. You can also easily modify it with different things depending on your needs, tastes, etc.

I’m not very good at snacking on fruits, especially if some sort of cookie is my other option. I remembered that smoothies were a good idea…you can get a few servings of fruit in like, a few slurps. And I’m trying to eat more fruit since I am now responsible for growing another human being.

Here’s what you need:

(for one smoothie, just double or triple for a bigger batch)

  • 1/2 frozen banana, cut into chunks
  • 3-4 frozen strawberries, cut in half, lengthwise
  • About 80z of vanilla almond milk

A few notes on this…I usually buy fruit fresh, then freeze it the night before I want to make a smoothie (which is typically every morning). It’s cheaper than buying pre-frozen fruit and I feel like it’s better for you, or something. Also, you MUST get VANILLA almond milk. If you don’t, your smoothie won’t be sweet enough, and I promise it’s not overly sweet in the first place.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Place the strawberries and banana in a blender. (I use a single serve blender for easy clean up).
  2. Fill the blender with almond milk to the 80z mark.
  3. Blend until smooth

Easy freaking peasy. It’s just sweet enough, and it’s good for you! Almond milk apparently has 50% more calcium than normal milk, and fruit, as we all know, is great for you.

If you’re feeling adventurous, here are some simple things you can add for fun:

  • 1 scoop protein powder
  • 2 tbs peanut butter for protein and a great flavor contrast
  • 1/4 cup greek yogurt for extra creaminess and protein (use plain yogurt or your smoothie might be too sweet)

There you have it folks! If you have any ideas for smoothie additions or modifications, please tweet us or comment below! We would love to hear from you!

Rachel

[…] Easy Peasy recipe, and I didn’t want to let the tradition die. Actually we’ve only done one other Easy Peasy post, but I think it should be a tradition. Mostly because of it’s very mature and creative […]
